Volunteerism

At the heart of Sysco are thousands of employees that are always looking for ways to give back to the communities where they live and work. Throughout FY2016, Sysco employees spent countless hours volunteering to support their local communities through various events. Good things do indeed come from Sysco.

  • Sysco Seattle associates joined more than 1,000 community volunteers and its customer, Dream Dinners, to package 150,000 meals to help those in need during the Fight Against Hunger event;
  • Associates from SYGMA Dallas volunteered at the Tarrant Area Food Bank, inspecting close to 9,500 pounds of food and grocery products and boxing them into 7,883 meal packs for distribution to area families and seniors in need;
  • Associates in the Pacific market as well as those in the Corporate office held clothing drives to benefit Dress for Success, which helps individuals returning to the workforce who don’t have resources to buy business attire;
  • Sysco Corporate and Shared Business Services associates celebrated Earth Day by participating in an Urban Harvest event where they built and raised 16 large community garden beds;
  • Associates in Atlanta were part of more than 200 volunteers and 30 different companies that helped make over 15,000 sandwiches and bagged lunches as part of the United Way; summer program to feed children in need. Sysco Atlanta dedicated its main kitchen for the entire day as members of its business resources team and its executive chefs helped organize and contribute to the needs of the campaign, which was called “Silence the Growl.”
